"To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield."
You don't have to be an athlete, or even athletic, to be fit. I was well into my thirties before realizing this simple truth.
As a child, I played basketball and baseball. In high school and college, I ran track until constant injuries took all the joy out of it. After that, I didn't even think about staying fit or conditioning for many years. I was no longer a competitive athlete (well, I was never that competitive), so I no longer saw the need to worry about it.
About the time I turned 35, my wife got me interested in Pilates and I realized that I missed being fit just for fitness' sake. As Pilates increased my strength and flexibility, it also helped me manage stress and feel happier. I started taking Spinning classes to maintain and improve my cardiovascular health. I loved it from the start. Before long, thanks to the encouragement of friends at Fusion, I began cycling too. I discovered that no matter how tired or sweaty I became, no matter how much my lungs and legs might burn, I was never angry while on a bike.
I got my Spinning certification in 2007 because I wanted to share my newfound loves of Spinning and cycling with others. I hope to inspire and encourage my students to achieve greater levels of fitness, both physical and mental, than they thought possible – just as my own instructors have done for me.
